We were asked to design an extension and to fully refurbish a two storey family home in Ealing. The scheme included a new, modern rear extension to the back of the period property, as well as extending up into the roof to create additional living space. The original house and its features will be retained and restored. The approach to the rear extension is to offer a modern contrast to the original building, by creating generous living spaces and increasing natural light.

EDO was appointed to remodel, extend and refurbish this red brick fronted Victorian property in the sought after area of Muswell Hill, London. The existing house had been split into duplex flats and was in dire need of attention and modernisation throughout, to bring it back into use as a generously sized family home.

Set over four storeys with gardens to the front and rear, EDO created a ‘broken plan’ to the lower ground floor, which was key for this professional chef and her family. Structurally opening up and extending the footprint of the building, allowed for a fully equipped kitchen with island and social dining area orientated towards the large garden. Utility, gym & plant areas utilised the back of the basement to create a hidden functional core. The upper ground floor provided the main entrance via a commissioned stained glass door which leads to quieter, formal and informal linked reception spaces along with private study. The upper floors maintained a cellular plan for individual bedrooms with the addition of ensuites.

The materials and colour palette use warm, neutral tones throughout the shared spaces, mixed with soft upholstery, textured rugs & artwork, marble surfaces, vintage furniture and bespoke joinery. Smaller spaces use patterned wallpapers and children’s bedrooms are bold and playful in colour.

Altogether the redesign created light filled spaces made for entertainment and relaxation, adding and enhancing the period character of an enviable family home.

EDO was appointed from inception through to completion for a full remodel of this locally listed townhouse in the heart of Islington. Works included a new basement and ground floor kitchen extension, alongside a full remodel and refurbishment.

The existing flatted property was dark and damp with small rooms given the size and location of property. The generous garden and end of terrace siting were overlooked in the existing layout, but full of potential.

Set over two storeys with an existing lightwell to the street front and garden to the rear, EDO designed an upside down living arrangement; bedrooms located at basement level and kitchen, dining, living spaces to the ground floor. Creating a new basement under garden level allowed for a generous master bedroom suite with full height sliding doors onto a private courtyard garden within the light-well. The main entrance door was relocated, to enter the property directly from the street level, into the heart of the property. The addition of a large kitchen extension created a light filled open plan to connect the living, dining and kitchen spaces with ample built in storage throughout. A bespoke pivot door flows out into the walled garden, to make a perfect space for entertaining.

The material and colour palette chosen uses warm neutral hues as a backdrop for earthy green tones mixed with indoor planting, marble, timber and stone finishes.

We have recently completed the full internal refurbishment of a period property in Finsbury Park. The works included a new dormer roof and ground floor extension to the rear. We were appointed from the outset of the project which included concept design, planning, tender administration and project management. As with all projects we worked closely with the client to achieve a solution close to their requirements.

The project required a fully redeveloped floor plan to suit the needs of a young family. The stair position was altered to ensure natural light decended into all areas of the property and a new basement was created for a gym, utility and plant rooms. Use of large skylights brightened the ground floor and glass floors between the ground floor and basement allow natural light to continue to this space. The choice of material were very selective and all joinery was bespoke. Timber floors throughout plus hand selected stone panels sit next to solid oak joinery.

The ground floor extension to this family home replaced a variety of different rooms and created a brighter and more homogeneous living space. EDO provided planning, design and project management services.

Part of a historic country house near Streatham Common, the listed property is being fully refurbished to a high specification.  The proposal allows for an open plan kitchen and dining area with the living/sleeping/bathing areas adapted to create a more rational layout. The high ceilings are accentuated by full-height openings and doors.

The former Victorian racing stables set in East Isley, Berkshire were originally converted into a residential property over 30 years ago. The project required the full strip-out and refurbishment to bring the the property up to modern standards and allow it to become a six bedroom family home plus annex.

New walnut flooring was installed throughout and the project was intentionally clean and minimal, new bathrooms featured limestone floor and wall panels, bespoke joinery and lighting. The new kitchen was manufactured by a local joiner and stone was also sourced locally.

The private courtyard garden was landscaped and became an attract secluded space ready for planting.

EDO was appointed to remodel and refurbish this Grade II listed townhouse in the heart of Angel, London. The existing house was in need of modernisation and the relationship between spaces didn’t work for this growing family.

EDO explored relocating the habitable rooms to the principle floors and moving the private spaces such as bedrooms & bathrooms upstairs, in a more traditional arrangement. A rear light well was created to improve the natural daylight into the snug and study at basement level and provide a visual link to the courtyard garden. Adjoining rooms were opened up to create more generous and social connections between uses, whilst retaining reference to the original floor plan. A jack & Jill bathroom between upper floor bedrooms and a generous master bathroom provided improved facilities to bring this Victorian townhouse back into modern use.

The materials and colour palette throughout nod to the heritage of property, whilst creating bold and characterful individual spaces.

We have recently completed the full refurbishment and extension of two detached properties in Holland Park, Central London. Working closely with a discerning and rewarding client, the project consisted of full internal removals, reorientation of vertical circulation and additional bedroom and bathroom accommodation to the top floor.

The project required full structural design, new services throughout and high specification fixtures, fittings and furnishings.

We provided a full design and consultation servicing including cost control, project management and planning.

We were appoint to provide full architectural services for the redevelopment and refurbishment of a mews property in Gloucester Road. Planning permission was obtained for a dormer conversion of the loft space to provide additional bedroom accommodation and bring much needed natural light into the property.

EDO obtained planning permission and tender selection for an extension to a new build property in Enfield. The extension had to achieve the highest standards for efficiency.

Refurbishment of a period property in Camden. The client required minor structural alterations and interior design. The works were designed and managed on site by LYN and assistance in the selection of furniture, sanitaryware and lighting.

We were appointed to design and project manage the amalgamation of two apartments within a large townhouse in the Westbourne area of London. The clients are an artist and writer who required a modern interior that complemented the original layout and aesthetic of the original Victorian property.

The central feature to the first floor is a bathroom which serves the guest bedroom but when all the concealed doors are open stands alone as a box in a larger living area. This enables light to pass around and above the box to the adjacent reception room.

We worked closely with the client to design and implement the refurbishment of the lower ground floors and garden. The new glass infill roof features a switchable privacy film. Internal walls received a leather cladding to conceal services and the new kitchen was designed to complement the modern choice of materials.

We have recently completed the amalgamation of two properties into a single dwelling in Kensington. The original properties suffered from poor layouts and segmented living areas. The enlarged property provides generous open plan living and three bedrooms on the upper level.

Critical to the scheme is the capture and maximum use of natural light, particularly to the main internal stair which serves all floors. A large full width skylight sits above the stair core and allows daylight to reach all levels through the open stair treads and glazed balustrades. The vaulted roof line was accommodated to ensure all guest bedrooms were similar in size. All joinery was bespoke and designed to meet the clients requirements on concealed all air conditioning systems.

We provided design and planning services for this small new build development in Sutton, South London. Due for construction. The challenging site layout dictated the slender design and the clients requirements to maximise internal floor space.

We were appointed to provide feasibility proposals and planning advice for the substantial refurbishment of a large family home in Richmond. The the client required a modern rear extension which provided additional living accommodation and alterations to the layouts of the upper floors to maximise room sizes and give great access to private bathrooms.

Currently under construction, the beautiful and secluded cottage near Royal Tunbridge Wells is being tactfully upgraded to ensure the property has a future as a family home. We provided planning services and construction details.

EDO have been asked to provide planning services for the construction of a new house West Berkshire. The design is in keeping with the surrounding architectural language and the application was submitted following a feasibility stage.

We undertook a successful planning application for a substantial property in Chelsea. The works required the full restoration of a grade II listed town house. All original details were preserved and highlighted by a light touch intervention.
